A living piece of Texas history.
Set in a restored Greek Revival mansion just west of the University of Texas, Hotel Ella carries more than a century of Austin history into the present. Once the private home of the Wooten family, the property later served as a dormitory, a sorority house, and a rehabilitation center before becoming the boutique hotel it is today.
Stay in the house that Ella built.
High ceilings and the proportions of the original mansion give Hotel Ella a strong sense of place, where indoor and outdoor spaces feel closely connected. The wrap-around veranda opens onto a shaded front lawn, while a rear courtyard offers a quieter place to settle in. Despite its central Austin location near the University of Texas, the hotel offers a more residential, slow-paced feel than you might expect.
A classic Austin address, reworked for today.
At Hotel Ella, accommodations are divided between the historic Mansion and the more modern North Wing. Mansion guestrooms include custom-designed furniture and original architectural details. Guestrooms in the North Wing, a 1980s addition, are designed for a more private, contemporary experience. Many boast patios or Juliet balconies overlooking the pool courtyard, which serves as the hotel's main outdoor gathering space.
Named after Goodall Wooten, Ella's husband, Goodall's Kitchen serves elevated Texan food in a refined space for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon high tea daily, with dinner on select nights. The Parlor Bar runs a walk-up counter with cocktails, wine, and tasty small plates, and holds a daily happy hour.
Located in downtown Austin, Texas, within walking distance of the Texas State Capitol and The University of Texas at Austin.
