The State Hotel

Contemporary Seattle boutique with a storied history and intoxicating energy

Creativity. Tradition. An adventurous spirit. You’ll find all those things at The State Hotel. Much like the city it’s located in, The State is filled with an unmistakably vibrant energy. Originally built in 1904 as a medical office building; then operated as a billiard parlor, gambling hall and restaurant since the 1930s by Ben Paris, a Seattle entrepreneur -- this building is now a unique and eclectic downtown Seattle hotel.

Independent spirit

Unbelievable location, uncommon service, unmistakably Seattle.

Small touches

The State Hotel believes in energizing Seattle through the arts -- so it’s proud to have partnered with street artist Shepard Fairey in a five-story mural on the west side of the hotel, as well as local artists Kate Blairstone and Kyler Martz for artwork throughout the hotel. Overnight guests can wander up to the rooftop deck, a social hangout for the in-the-know. Open year-round, you can take in iconic views of the ferries, the Olympic Mountains and Pike Place Market from there. You can also rent the space out for an event that's quintessentially Seattle.

Eat and drink

Situated on the bustling corner of 2nd & Pike, Ben Paris is a casual, lively gathering place that’s like visiting the home of a good friend. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy ambitious cocktails and handcrafted American fare. Enjoy selections from the adventurous cocktail menu, along with a curated selection of wines and craft beers. The dishes are appealing and well-rounded. You’ll find the food and drinks to be both approachable and unexpected -- with flavors as distinctive as the setting. Drop in for a quick bite, take it to go, or kick back and hang out.

And more

Each of the 91 guestrooms feature classic style, locally made premium beds and bedding, as well as custom-designed closets, desks, and leather catch-alls, along with a collection of eclectic and spirited local art. Your bed features triple-sheeted bedding atop a premium mattress. Each room has a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower and glass doors, and most rooms offer a water or city view, with natural light spilling in through large windows. The State is distinctly a product of the city of Seattle -- and everything about your stay helps you enjoy the unique pleasures that make this place different from anywhere else in the world.
