S.L.umber Yard

Your base camp and sanctuary in Colorado's high country

Built in 1884, Leadville’s train depot has been converted into FREIGHT, a community gathering space and wedding venue. Here, you'll find S.L.umber Yard, a group of 13 high-craftmanship rental cabins. Unlike the depot, these cabins are brand new and designed for today's discerning guest.

A celebration of the area's gritty mining history and spirited future.

What it's like

In the shadow of two fourteener (14,000' +) mountains, you'll find the charming town of Leadville. Once the center of the Wild West, Leadville is now considered an off-the-beaten-path oasis for adventure seekers and history buffs alike. As you make your way through the charming town to FREIGHT, you'll feel like you're being transported to another time, where community matters and the pace is peaceful. When you arrive at S.L.umber Yard, you'll be greeted with a warm welcome and a complimentary cocktail. Soak in the details and the lore of this family-run hotel as you make your way to your cabin. Each cabin has an exterior of recycled metal and an interior of modern luxury.

Independent spirit

Lay your weary head to rest

Small touches

As a woman-led hotel, the cabin names pay homage to the working women of Leadville's formative years. From madams who ran parlour houses to the "hurdy gurdy" girls that frequented saloons and doubled as musicians and performers, this hotel honors the oft-forgotten female pioneers. The inclusive spirit of this spot is unmistakable – everyone is welcome.

Eat and drink

In your cabin, you can take advantage of a kitchenette with a mini-fridge, induction burners, utensils, and a coffee maker. A few blocks away, you'll find a variety of restaurants, bars and cafes on Harrison Avenue.  The staff at S.L.umber Yard are happy to point you to their favorite spots, or embrace your own pioneering spirit and explore Leadville without a destination in mind. You'll be delighted by what you find.

And more

Historical photos, captivating stories, and architectural details transport you to another time. While you'll find modern staples like WiFi and Bluetooth speakers, the cabins don't have television – we don't think you'll miss it.
