Built in 1926 as private residences, guestrooms still have pre-war grace: molded ceilings, paneled doors that close with the firm sound of solid wood, and good bones. The lobby living room has a wood fireplace, and comfortable modern sofas, groovy but unobtrusive music, and a bucket of large wooden-handled umbrellas in the door – this is Seattle, after all.
There’s an upstairs lounge where you can order drinks from Tom Douglas’s Lola and watch people coming and going below. Lola is lively all hours of the day, and every table is a black leather booth, comfortable and private.
