Calling all Scarletts: the Georgian Terrace is the perfect place to sweep down a curved, marble staircase in a velvet gown. Built in 1911, the grand ballroom – then as now bedecked with gilded sconces on white columns – played host to Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable at the 1939 première of Gone With The Wind. In the ‘70’s, it hosted Fleetwood Mac and Patti Smith under its new (and temporary) name, the Electric Ballroom.
Rest assured, the rooms have been updated, and Livingston Restaurant draws a lively pre- and post-theatre crowd for its utterly modern and deeply Southern menu – Louisiana Rabbit, anyone?
The Georgian Terrace is in mid-town Atlanta, in the business district and across the street from the Fox Theatre – an historic building worth a look even if you aren’t seeing a show. The hotel occupies the site of the erstwhile residence of Livingston Mims, Atlanta’s mayor at the turn of the last century.
