Built in 1926 as private residences, guestrooms still have pre-war grace: molded ceilings, paneled doors that close with the firm sound of solid wood, and good bones. The living room's floor-to-ceiling rich wood paneling, loft space and crackling fire is both airy and warm; funky but unobtrusive music plays in the background, and Tom Douglas' Lola opens off the lobby.
Swedish modern sets the tone in the guestrooms, warmed up by fun, plush elements like chocolate brown alpaca-covered headboards. Select suites have wainscoting and other design elements recalling the building’s 1920’s origins. Bathrooms have a sleek, European feel: cool, Icelandic blue predominates; showers are tiled in glass.
The fitness room is small but well-stocked with cardio machines, weights, and little flat-screen TV’s to keep you entertained. On a note consistent with the thoughtful overall design, the ice machines are noiseless, leather clad cabinets.
An elegant cornerstone to a lively neighborhood
In keeping with the Ändra’s Swedish theme, all bath products are by fashion-forward and natural Face Stockholm.
Lola is run by Tom Douglas, a Seattle chef famous for his cookbooks and restaurants. The menu marries classic Greek flavors with Northwest ingredients: try Washington King Salmon with Tender Herbs and Marcona Almonds. Room service is available. Tom Douglas’s landmark Dahlia Lounge and Dahlia Bakery are right across the street – convenient if you’re up for his Triple Coconut Cream Pie for breakfast.
Assaggio's menu is Italian. Chef Golmarvi chooses the fish at the Pike Place Market each morning, and there's a particularly good selection of Italian red wines.
Hotel Ändra is in Seattle’s downtown, where Belltown meets the S. Lake Union neighborhood. It's an easy walk to the Pike Place Market, the Frank Gehry-designed Experience Music Project, and the Seattle Opera's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, known for its crystalline acoustics and home to world-class presentations of Wagner's Ring Cycle.
