Hotel Normandie

Jazz-age charm revamped for modern LA

Original details fill the lobby, hallways, guestrooms and suites. Over an always-in-fashion black and white, diagonally laid checkerboard floor, a pair of sparkling chandeliers drop from the lobby's high ceiling. Wood flooring runs throughout the property. And to top it all off, the illumination of the iconic neon sign brightens LA's night sky from the rooftop.

Tons of personality and intention in every detail at this Koreatown boutique

What it's like

The property features a lattice-backed fountain, a tall-dark-and-handsome fireplace, and a set of terrazo-tiled columns that climb to reach the exposed beam ceiling. The mission revival motif weaves throughout the hotel, causing guests to stop and take in its historic beauty. It's the kind of room that instantly let's you know you're not in Kansas (or where ever you're coming from) anymore. Hotel Normandie's 94 guest rooms and suites have been thoughtfully restored to maintain the integrity of their original design. Area carpets soften hardwood floors. Central air keeps the California heat at bay.

Independent spirit

Look for the neon sign beaming atop the roof, illuminated continuously for 90 years

Small touches

The tiled parapet that frames the roof presents as a subtle-but-stately detail that nods to a bygone era. And about that rooftop: start your Saturday morning with a professionally led rooftop yoga session overlooking the palm tree-dotted skyline.

Eat and drink

The dining and drinking options at the Normandie are as diverse as its past. Cassell's Hamburgers, a vintage LA burger joint that opened in 1948, is now located on the first floor of Hotel Normandie and offers classic diner fare made with premium ingredients.

Le Comptoir is a nightly pop-up restaurant with a prix-fixe menu served counterside. With a 63-degree egg, Nantucket bay scallops, and kurabota pork belly on the menu, and between two seatings of 10 seats, you'll definitely want to make reservations. Wine pairings encouraged.
