Flophouze is a shipping container hotel where every single detail speaks volumes. This eco-savvy boutique offers 6 transformed shipping container rooms —with more on the way— plus a Farmhouze and a Beachhouze. Indeed, this is a space that is always transforming, drawing upon the influences of its varied elements. The hotel is intimately related to the culture of nearby Round Top and to the Recycling the Past architectural salvage ethos. Accommodations are non-traditional, yet intriguing and inviting. You’ll be impressed by the views, the innovative sustainability and the unexpected elements.
The material sources are as varied as can be. You’ll encounter uniquely designed interiors clad with both sustainably harvested wood from a farm in upstate New York and reclaimed lumber from a distillery in Kentucky. As you drink in the vast pastoral views and great natural light, take a moment to appreciate that the hotel’s windows were salvaged from a school in Philadelphia that was slated for demolition. The funky vibe continues with kitchen cabinet bases from a laboratory in Brooklyn, and the countertops are old bowling alley floors from Texas. While the floor of your shipping container is the original one, it may well have traveled the world many times over. Indeed, each “houze” will offer you a unique place to stay — and conversation inspiration in spades.
Born out of wanderlust, an obligation to recycle and a need to create.
Want to relax by the fire? FlopHouze provides the firewood, lighter fluid and lighter to get your fire pit started. The outdoor communal grilling area contains a Weber gas grill and a charcoal smoker. Relax in the seasonally heated pool/jacuzzi and enjoy the view and fantastic photo ops. If you feel up for some swimming and fishing, Fayette Lake is right around the corner. Outside, every houze comes with its own hammock, firepit and comfy chairs to relax and enjoy the famous Round Top sunsets.
Upon your arrival, each houze will have complimentary coffee and tea, Topochico sparkling water and Mexican Cokes. Just a short drive away in Round Top, there is a market for light snacks and other goodies. Round Top offers a tempting list of delicious restaurants and bars. From cafes serving up hearty American comfort food to classic French restaurants; from country cooking outposts to breakfast taco spots and so much more.
