Pioneertown Motel

A glimpse into the American West’s illustrious past.

Roy Rogers built Pioneertown Motel in 1946 as lodging for the biggest Western movie stars. Since then, it’s been restored to celebrate Pioneertown’s unique history. Nowadays, the Motel serves as an oasis – providing travelers with modern comforts and a soft bed while they soak in the desert’s majesty.

Your gateway to the magnificent California desert.

What it's like

When you visit Pioneertown, there isn’t any way of knowing what exactly will happen. You could see a meteor shower, discover a new band at Pappy & Harriet’s, or hear the coyotes sing as the sun goes down. One thing is for sure – you’ll be fully engulfed in the experience. There are no TVs at Pioneertown Motel, and with the desert nights being so quiet, you won’t have any distractions. So kick back and bask in the glory of the Milky Way while lounging on a hammock. Or sit by the fire pit late into the night and enjoy the sounds of nature. No matter what, you’ll end your stay feeling refreshed and reconnected.

Independent spirit

A completely immersive “Wild West” experience.

Small touches

Each of the 19 guest rooms at Pioneertown Motel features modern amenities, including ultra-comfy beds, hot showers, and quality toiletries. There’s WiFi on the property, free for all guests, and a mini-fridge in every room so you can enjoy simple comforts without the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Eat and drink

Pioneertown Motel is next door to the legendary Pappy & Harriet’s, where you can catch a show from your favorite band and eat some of the best BBQ around. Or stay close to the Motel, and mosey on over to The Red Dog Saloon for a drink and some scratch-made Mexican food. No matter where you eat or drink – you can do it without jumping in your car.

And more

Pioneertown Motel is surrounded in all directions by stunning scenery and protected lands. And at only 20 minutes away from the Joshua Tree National Park, it’s the perfect basecamp for your park adventures. The list of things to do is only limited by your imagination. With incredible local hikes, beautiful drives, and even horseback riding, it can be hard to decide how to spend your time – so be sure to ask the friendly front office staff for recommendations.
